Compare Two Hashes Online

Paste two hashes: the tool tells you whether they are identical, without being fooled by case or separators, and guesses the likely algorithm.

Enter two hashes to compare.

How does it work?

Paste two hashes: the tool tells you whether they are identical, ignoring case and separators (spaces, colons). The comparison is done in constant time, so its duration reveals nothing. The likely algorithm of the first hash is shown too.

It is the reliable way to check “by eye” that a published hash matches the one you computed, with no risk of misreading dozens of characters.

Examples

Checking a download

Paste the SHA-256 hash published by the vendor and the one you have just computed: an “identical” verdict confirms that the file is intact.

Case and separators

D41D8C…427E and d4:1d:8c…42:7e are recognized as identical: only the bytes count, not the formatting.

Frequently asked questions

Can the message be recovered from the hash?
No. A hash function is one-way: a hash cannot be “decrypted”. You can only recompute the hash of a candidate input and check whether it matches.
What is a “constant-time” comparison?
A naive comparison stops at the first different character, which could, in theory, inform an attacker through the response time. Here, the comparison always goes through the whole length, with no timing leak.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. All the computation happens in your browser, in JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your text, your files and your hashes never leave your device: no network request is made during hashing, and nothing is stored on a server.
